Connecting New York's Bio/Med Industry

Summer Spotlight on Buffalo

On Wednesday July 17, we [MedTech] brought the Bio/Med community to Buffalo, for a Meet Up, to hear from innovators who are making a difference in the industry.

Coined as the Summer Spotlight on Buffalo, this Meet Up was a bit different than the typical.  A typical MedTech Meet Up would be hosted at one member location as an opportunity for that company to showcase its operations and tell its story to an audience of business leaders, potential partners, and clients.

This Meet Up, held at the Big Ditch Brewing Company, embodied relaxation and summer fun.  Rather than having one MedTech member in the showcase, we were able to share the spotlight with six member companies:

  • AMRI – a global contract research and manufacturing organization partnering with the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries
  • Circuit Clinical – one of the country’s largest integrated research organizations, transforming clinical trials
  • Efferent Labs – a medical technology company focused on implantable devices
  • Garwood Medical – a device company specializing in wound healing and reducing orthopedic implant infections
  • SoPark – an electronic contract manufacturer serving high-tech medical companies
  • Tapecon – providing OEM contract manufacturing, converting, and printing for medical applications

Each member company gave a ten-minute presentation which included: an overview of the company, its history and where they are at today, where they are headed in the future, and each answered the question, “Why Buffalo?”  We recognize that the Buffalo area is a great place for Bio/Med companies to thrive, so we wanted each company to highlight not only what the area provides for them, but why they have stayed in the area as well.

We were also able to hear from Matt Kahn, President of the famed Big Ditch Brewing Company, about the brewery's rich history and great success in Buffalo.  As with every MedTech event, the networking reception was full of connections with a future business partners over food and great beer – at the open bar!  The event attracted a full house of 75 attendees.
